Farmington, Virginia is a historic unincorporated community located in Western Albemarle County.
Moments from the city of Charlottesville, Virginia, Farmington, Virginia was first established in the 1700s as a grand estate for Francis Jerdone, who then sold it to George Divers at the turn of the century. In the early 1800s, Divers employed Thomas Jefferson to design an addition to the original estate residence.
In 1927, the idea to transform the original Farmington estate into a club and residential community led to the establishment of the Farmington Country Club. During the next two years, roadways, bridle paths, and a steeplechase course were designed while renowned architect Fred Findlay created its iconic golf course.
Comprised of nearly 1,000 acres, Farmington Golf Club has helped cement Farmington, Virginia as one of the most desirable communities in Albemarle County, regarded for its pastoral beauty and architectural charm.
